Mark Nestberg participates in leading Hope Chapel as the Elder of Local Missions. He is the point of contact for community organizations who, in partnership with Hope Chapel, meet needs right here in the Upstate. Mark brings reports on these programs to the church body. Mark has also been integral to the development of Hope Chapel’s Prayer Tent Ministry. The prayer tent is set up weekly beside Buncombe Road in Greer for the purpose of building relationships and praying for those in the neighborhood surrounding Hope Chapel. Mark has previously worked full time at the Greenville Rescue Mission as Program Coordinator and volunteered as a children’s ministry team member at Heritage Bible Church, as well as serving as a deacon focusing on mercy ministry at Mitchell Road Presbyterian. With a heart for those in need, Mark continually uses his position at Hope to remind the church to look outward and serve “our Jerusalem,” the city where God has placed us. Partnerships with local ministries like Miracle Hill and Blest with Wheels enable the church to fulfill that calling.
Mark was born and raised in Greenville, SC in a Christian home and gave his life to Jesus when he was very young. He went on his first mission trips when he was a teenager, and his resulting passion for culturally-relevant gospel sharing has only continued to grow over the years. In addition to serving in local churches, Mark has also traveled multiple times with Spread Truth Ministry to share the love of Jesus in New York City. Mark first encountered Will Lohnes when Will was working as the Youth Pastor at Heritage Bible Church, and Mark was a teenager there. A lifelong mentorship grew from that relationship, culminating in Mark’s family joining Hope Chapel in 2017. Mark is thankful for the opportunity to use his spiritual gifts at Hope and feels privileged to work alongside the other elders and deacons for the benefit of the church. Mark and his wife Holly have been married for 29 years and have four children.
